Dog Enrichment recipe | PB Chicken & Goats milk

Soda, our sweet foster fail  (I say that with a positive tone), is curious, playful, and loves to explore. She is always so active and eager for her kids to come home from school or their extracurricular activities so she can join them for playtime.  Although I’m very blessed to work from home, I have set hours that I time block for my activities and goals. For lunchtime, I have a set goal: step away from my desk, walk Soda, and enjoy lunch before getting back into my workflow. I can’t always accommodate that, so how does Soda pass the time?  She takes lovely naps, relaxes, or plays outside, and sometimes she sits on the couch and mopes, for those days I provide her with an enrichment dog treat.
Enrichment may be trending but we know dogs can get bored. If dogs get bored, it can cause poor behavior and stress. They may act out by digging, chewing, and excessive barking.  Dogs are social creatures and need toys, chews, and activities to keep them busy.

For an enrichment toy, Soda and I prefer  West Paws Topple. They have several options for dogs, and their toys always last long. You can create simple enrichment recipes with dog-friendly ingredients from your fridge. For this recipe, I chose to use ingredients I like Goat milk, chicken chews, peanuts, and a fun dog cookie

This enrichment recipe is a fun frozen treat for your dog to bust boredom

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup of Goat Goat Milk powder or raw Goat milk
  • 4 tbsp room temperature water
  • 1/4 cup of roasted Peanuts
  • 1 - 2 Oven-baked Chicken Chews (optional)
  • 1 -2 Decorated dog cookie | Ice cream Bizkit (optional)

Instructions

I find goat milk at most local grocery stores. I also have seen it in Walmart and Target. Raw goat milk is easily digestible for dogs so pick up the one recommended by your Vet. You can find peanuts at your local vegetable market or store but make sure it's only roasted peanuts and does not have other ingredients like salt or sugar. Pick up your dog's favorite cookie treats. We also have some for sale in our bakery.

If using Chicken chews (start with this step first) or you can purchase them from our Bizkits bakery

Grab ¼ cup of Goat milk powder, add 4 tbsp room temperature water, and mix. Set aside two tablespoons of frosting to decorate the cookie.

I used my homemade peanut butter for dogs, or you can grind or finely crush the 1/ 4 cup of peanuts (I used a clean coffee grinder but also use a pilon) and add it to the goat milk.

Optional: Then add an oven-baked chicken chew.  Purchase chicken breasts and slice them into thin strips.  Place each 1” inch apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then bake chicken breasts for 8 hours plus until the chicken has dried out. Allow them to cool for 45 minutes.

Add two or more Chicken chews into the toy.

Optional: Grab one of your dog’s favorite cookies and, using the goat milk set aside earlier, decorate a cookie using a spoon or spatula. I chose an ice cream dog cookie and decorated it with goat milk as the ice cream.

Place the whole toy in the freezer for 1 hour.  Once all set and frozen solid, it's ready as a boredom buster for your dog.  If you skip the chicken chew and cookie, you will have a  yummy popsicle for your dog, aka “pupsicle.”

As always, consult your vet before introducing new foods to your dog, have fresh water readily available, and keep an eye on your dog with all treats and toys.
